Our graduates have the knowledge, skills and professionalism to satisfy registration requirements set by theCollege of Pharmacists of British Columbia. The Herzing Ottawa Pharmacy Assistant program fully prepares students for careers in community and hospital pharmacies. Our instructor has over 40 years of experience owning and managing pharmacies. Currently, there are over 60 PAs who have voluntarily registered with CPSA. Once under CPSA regulation, PAs will need to formally register with CPSA. You will be offered admission to this program through direct entry if you meet the admission requirements and space is available.
Ontario college pharmaceutical programs are offered in varying forms and result in different credentials, including diploma, advanced diploma and graduate certificate. As such, admission requirements will vary. Because of the diversity of program offerings, individual courses will vary.

It’s also an opportunity to experience, first-hand, the professional expectations placed on pharmacy technicians. You will have lectures that provide foundational knowledge, and will also apply your learning in Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s well-equipped labs. Experienced instructors provide group and individual instruction, giving you hands-on training and real-world skills. You will find a lot of career doors open to you.
The course will also provide practical experience pertaining to interviewing process. Best practices and faux pas will be explained and outlined through mock interviews and peer evaluations. This course is designed to provide the student the opportunity to develop effective communication and listening skills in a pharmacy/healthcare environment. Topics will include verbal and nonverbal communication, active listening skills, barriers to communication, conflict resolution skills, and sensitivities in the communication process. This comprehensive pharmacology course guides students through the general concepts of pharmacology and defines drug classifications as related to their action on various body systems. The therapeutic classifications as defined in the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary are also explained.

You will practice pharmacy calculations with the pharmacy requirement of “zero tolerance for calculation errors”. You will apply accurate calculations to advanced prescriptions and check the calculation work of others. You will study the procedures and expectations of a pharmacy technician when preparing complex prescription orders. You will study pharmacy technician dispensary functions that support the patient and dispensary workflow. This course prepares you for the Advanced Pharmacy Dispensing Lab classes. You will participate in the workflow of a community pharmacy.
